Set against the vast horizon of the South African wilderness, this small airport building was envisioned as a serene threshold into the reserve. The architecture is kept deliberately simple, with clean lines and an understated form that allows the surrounding landscape to remain the hero. Natural stone, timber, and textured finishes bring depth and warmth, while screens and slatted details play with light and shadow to create a constantly shifting atmosphere within.
Inside, the welcome lounge offers a contemporary yet grounded interior. A space designed for comfort, connection, and anticipation. Woven textures, layered lighting, and bespoke furnishings lend intimacy, while curated local elements give a true sense of place. Expansive views and a generous use of glass ensure the building always feels part of its environment, blurring the threshold between interior and landscape.
This project is less about grandeur and more about resonance. A modest but memorable first encounter that sets the tone for the safari experience to follow.
